After extensive refinement, Vizum has officially launched the ViEye Pro – Melt Pool and Weld Seam Dual-Measurement Camera. Designed for embodied AI welding robot applications, this product serves as a core multi-dimensional intelligent sensor for the welding process. It is engineered to provide stable and actionable visual support in complex industrial environments, driving the engineering implementation of intelligent and teach-free welding.

The Challenge & The Human-Like Solution

The primary challenge in intelligent welding lies in maintaining consistent, high-quality output amidst arc light, smoke, spatter, and thermal deformation. A single perspective or one-time observation rarely meets the rigorous demands of the production line.

The stability of human welding stems from “eye-hand coordination”: the eyes continuously monitor the weld bead and melt pool, while the hands adjust posture and rhythm in real-time based on that feedback. To replicate this, embodied AI welding robots require multi-dimensional real-time perception, as well as information fusion and motion control within a unified coordinate system.

Traditional solutions often rely on complex and stringent high-precision hand-eye calibration, which leads to high deployment difficulty and poor on-site adaptability. Our self-developed next-generation industrial stereo camera, the ViEye Pro, utilizes a unified coordinate system and optimized calibration workflows. It significantly reduces hand-eye calibration requirements and deployment complexity while simultaneously performing core functions such as weld seam identification, melt pool monitoring, and thermal deformation sensing. A single camera achieves human-like, full-process intelligent welding perception.

Six Core Functions: Precision Before and During Welding

To achieve this goal, we have integrated Static Area Scan, Dynamic Line Scan, High-Precision RGB, Weld Seam Extraction, Weld Seam Tracking, and Melt Pool Monitoring into a single device. By sharing a unified reference base, the system reduces error accumulation caused by multi-perspective conversions and lowers the dependency on high-precision calibration, providing a controllable foundation for on-site operation.

  1. Static Area Scan: Capturing Overall Geometry Used to capture the overall geometry and regional morphology of the workpiece before welding. It performs an “initial survey” to identify the weld path, key structural positions, and potential clamping deviations.
  2. Dynamic Line Scan: Real-time Observation at Production Pace Suitable for continuous observation while the robot is in motion. It efficiently extracts key geometric information of the weld seam to support online positioning, tracking, and deviation correction.
  3. High-Precision RGB: Enhancing Accuracy with Detail Provides high-quality 2D images to capture details such as welding wire position, edge textures, and surface conditions, allowing for more precise system judgments.
  4. Weld Seam Extraction: Comprehensive Pre-weld Insights Focuses on critical pre-weld checks, including weld path position, workpiece posture, and arc start/stop areas, reducing the need for mid-process remedies.
  5. Weld Seam Tracking: Precision Node Alignment Aligns key feature points and reference positions to ensure the weld path starts and remains on the correct trajectory.
  6. Melt Pool Monitoring: A Real-time Window for Dynamic Adjustment Provides feedback on melt pool morphology and brightness, reflecting energy input and speed. This allows the system to detect anomalies and adjust parameters dynamically during the weld.

6-in-1 Synergy: Enabling “Watch and Weld” Capabilities

The ViEye Pro forms a complete operational loop. By functioning as the “eyes” of the embodied AI welding robot, it makes teach-free welding a reality. Just as human welders require real-time visual feedback to coordinate hand movements, intelligent welding cannot rely solely on static, single-perspective observation. This is the core value of the melt pool camera integration.

Vizum has ensured that all functions share a highly consistent 3D origin. By unifying all coordinates based on this origin, additional errors are kept at an absolute minimum. This technological foundation is essential for the large-scale industrial application of intelligent welding.

Software & Platform Integration

To enhance delivery efficiency, the ViEye is supported by Stereo Vision Management Software for configuration and calibration. It also works in synergy with the Tiger Intelligent Welding Application Platform to support advanced capabilities like seam extraction and tracking, ensuring that visual data directly serves the process closed-loop and on-site implementation.

The ViEye: More Than a Camera, an Extensible Development Foundation

The SDK is open to users, allowing algorithm engineers to perform secondary development and functional customization based on specific project requirements.

Typical Application Scenarios: Stable Performance in Complex Environments Looking to the Future: Making Welding More “Intelligent” and “Replicable”

Vizum has long been deeply committed to the intelligent welding sector, continuously driving the transition of welding from “teaching + fixed trajectories” to “autonomous robot completion.” The key to the future lies in enabling robots to act like humans—observing while welding and making real-time adjustments. This is the core technical prerequisite for teach-free welding to effectively replace manual operations.

With its 6-in-1 integrated capabilities, the ViEye Pro – Melt Pool and Weld Seam Dual-Measurement Camera provides powerful support for this vision. In response to increasingly complex working conditions and higher production line requirements, we will continue to iterate our products and solutions.

We welcome inquiries and look forward to collaborating with industry partners to jointly promote the implementation of teach-free welding across more industries.
